It was my third trip to visit my dad in Arizona, and I've been out to Navajo Nation before, but this is the first time I really captured The Res.

Hangin' Out with the Fellas at Doc's

Just digging through some old photos, I came across these. It was a typical night in Atlanta with the fellas, hanging out at a bar we frequented from time to time called Doc's
just outside of Atlanta in Marietta, Georgia.
It was one of those nights when all you really needed were your homboys, a few drinks and left your credit card, as long as it wasn't an American Express.
In the photos are my homeboys Devin Johnson and his cousin Randy Mitchell, Sam McGriff and my homeboy Mike Jackson who came down from Charlotte for the weekend.
Doc's was just around the corner from where I lived. We literally poured some drinks at my place and headed out there to finish the night.
As I've gotten older, I wonder why we spent so much time and so much money in clubs when the real fun was cuttin' up with your people. No need to put on your best threads
[as you can tell by the photos we weren't trying to impress anyone], drop $20 at the door and pay half-pint prices for a single serving
glass of watered down beverages!

Born Michael Joseph Jackson, we just call him 2-3.

Mike, aka 2-3, with a Smirnoff Ice flavored with grenadine. On the wall behind him is a map I had framed and hanging of the middle east. It wasn't that I was interested in it back then; I just liked maps and it came free in my National Geographic magazine.

A rare photo of my homeboy Sam McGriff.

Sam McGriff! I remember when he first stepped in to Wolf Camera, where I was an assistant manager, looking for work just after leaving the air force. Not only did he become my co-worker, he became one of my good friends in Atlanta.

I've known 2-3 since the 8th grade when in Home Economics class, he was a captain and had to choose his team for whatever we were learning and he chose me. Last.Half-Germans!

I met Devin Johnson, standing here with our waitress, in Atlanta. He was attending Morehouse and I was dating a friend of his who went to Spelman. My ex and I may not keep in touch today, but Devin has become one of my best friends.

Randy is Devin's cousin, who now livesi n Las Vegas with his family.

I was still a light-weight with my beverages back then, as I still am today.
