...and of course My Dad!
Several years ago my mom received a kidney transplant after spending nearly a decade and a half on the waiting list for a new kidney. During that time she underwent dialysis, a process in which a machine takes all the blood out the body, "cleans" it and puts it back [only the process isn't as easy as I make it sound]. She, as thousands of others across the country still do, spent three days a week, four hours a visit, at the clinic to get this done.

Essentially — to stay alive.

So when I saw a brochure to participate in a 5K walk to raise money for the National Kidney Foundation, it was a no brainer. My personal goal was to raise $500, but I didn't aggressively put the word out [combined with the fact that it's a recession!]. But I did raise over $400 thanks to the individuals [in the box to the right] who I greatly appreciate!

I want to especially recognize and thank Betty Morrison who contributed $100 almost as soon as she received the email asking for contributions.

Over 800 people participated in the walk, the largest number of participants to date in Washington, DC. We walked along the canal in Georgetown, some in teams, most in the name of someone and others just walking to support the cause. Below are some pictures from the event which I will be doing again next year...

A line of participating walkers in Georgetown

This guy did the walk wearing something on his leg which obvious meant he probably shouldn't be walking. Dedication.

We simply walked along the canal until we saw this sign. If you missed the sign, there's no telling how long the canal goes on for!

This was one of the teams who participated,
a family walking in the name of a loved one.

I didn't catch anyone of the speaker's names,
but their stories reminded us why we were all there.
